When The Reckoning
When overwhelming becomes an understatement. When the diversion to conceal a coup could bring down the United States of America.
Except for us, the world has come to understand that the United States of Yore no longer exists. That we are now simply Trump and who in the hell would be dumb enough to trust a man who says that the Constitution says what he says he says it says; that no treaty is valid unless he signs and then only when he says that it is until he says that it isn’t.
Canada sees better from where they are then we do from here. They see that the problem is the goddamned red states. All the world is catching on. The world is trying to move forward and these assholes are trying to take us back to the 19th Century which was modelled on a 17th which was modelled on the 15th, ….
The European Union (E.U.) is next. — Why pretend that all is well? The United States we knew is no more. Instead, we have a nation whose word means naught. Rather than have this nut-case jerking us around, we will go around. Leave them out. Because: why bother? The United States of America can no longer be trusted. Let’s rename it Trumpland. —
Meanwhile, China grins like a Cheshire Cat as it is we who fade away. They are the only winners in this debacle. Thank you, thank you, thank you dishonorable fool. Have a $ billion or two for the rest of the world. What a deal. What a bargain.
If there should be enough left over to start over; there will be a reckoning. Even if not, history will, as is its wont, eventually get it right.
This tariff flurry to conceal the real coup in progress has been quite the show. Fireworks fitting since this looks to be the coup de grace; the ‘tearing the house down’ of fevered dreams.
But, the coup began a long time ago. Actually, this is both a continuation and the second with a hundred years in between. The Civil Rights Act (1964) and The Voting Rights Act (1965) sparked a flame from the still smoldering embers of the first in the theretofore segregated south that grew to be the second.
This second had more than a little help from opportunistic (wealthy) ideologues; and politicians. The Kochs, Bradleys, et al, seeking an opportunity to impose their ideology on the Nation poured money on the flame. Seeding groups like: Americans for Prosperity, The Heritage Foundation, the Cato Institute, and the Manhattan Institute; American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), FreedomWorks, Americans for Prosperity, The Heritage Foundation, the Hoover Institution, the Black Alliance for Educational Options.
Finding itself in dire straits in the 1960s, the Republican Party reinvented itself as the party of states’ rights and dissatisfied southern Democrats. Adopting a ‘southern strategy’, it pandered to racism. to cultural issues (even invented a few). Today's Republican Party is not your grandmother’s; more the Grand Old Party of the Confederacy.
Since the 1960s, using the flaws in the Constitution and unlimited funds, the Republican party and its wealthy friends have co-opted Congress and The Supreme Court. As a consequence, the third branch.
This reckoning — something akin Nuremberg seems in order — will call to the stand (be they dead or alive), folks like Donald Trump, Steve Bannon and Robert and Rebekah Mercer, the Koch Brothers, the Heritage Foundation, the Federalists Society, Roger Stone, Jim Jordan, Mike Johnson, Mitch McConnell, Scott Perry, Bill Barr, Jeff Sessions, Mark Meadows, Leonard Leo, John Roberts, Roger Ailes and all the right-wing talk show host, Fox News, Elon Musk, Peter Thiel, Marc Andreesson, Mark Zuckerberg, James Comer, and Thomas Massey for starters.
